About the KoDenKan Institute

The KoDenKan Institute is one of the oldest martial arts schools or dojos in Northern California, and is located in Redwood City on the Peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. Since 1976 our ju jitsu school has been teaching DanZanRyu JuJitsu. We also offer traditional Japanese massage and Ten Chi Do classes—a classical mixed martial arts (MMA) system that incorporates karate, taekwondo, kung fu, escrima, judo, wrestling and other styles along with jiu jitsu.

Our students include men and women, adults, teenagers and children, as well as both those new to the martial arts and students of other self-defense systems. Black belt instructors oversee self-defense classes for teenagers and adults in DanZan Ryu Ju Jitsu, separate classes for children, Ten Chi Do training and Seifukujitsu massage instruction.

We encourage you to visit and observe a martial arts class at our dojo, and welcome your questions. Participation in a DanZanRyu class is free—all we ask is that you come wearing comfortable clothing (i.e. sweat pants and a T-shirt are recommended) and white socks. Our address is below, and our Redwood City dojo is located near Atherton, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Woodside and San Carlos off the Woodside exit of Highway 101.
